tf2 mvm heavy robot
« on: June 08, 2013, 01:38:35 PM »
after getting the mini up I have been printing a few small things and decided it was time for something big :)
Been working on a game model from teamfortress MvM heavy.
lots of parts (manifold madness) but I think the result is nice.
lessons learned, smooth model prior to printing....that plastic is pretty tuff to hand send hard edges of hahaha
break down of parts are on my blog for those who wish the see them.
Anyway enough chit chat, BEHOLD the heavy:

That looks really neat. How tall is the model?
Thanks for sharing!

From head to toe 27cm, so i had to cut it to bits to make it fit in my mini (12cm square) but also loose parts are easier to paint.
the gun barrel alone had to be diagonal to fit.

basically the smallest bits determined what the end size would be (so arm and leg flange plates wouldn't be to thin)
but the problem would be to big parts with out having to cut where I don't want a joint.
so I ended up with what it is now.

had a few hiccups along the way.
the hand holding the back of the gun went wrong due to the angle of the pinky finger....the printer figured it didn't need support and it started printing in midair.
reprinted the hand alone and did a bit of cutting and gluing and no one is the wiser ;)

when I wanted to print the last bit aka the ammo belt I nearly freaked out.....its was taller than the upper body that only just fits...OH NOOOOO.
but after using the rotate tool i managed to angle it in, well only just or some more gluing had to happen i guess.
have attached a picture of all the part.(pardon the English, not my first language)
Cheers,
Baz

That's great, can you make a dash mount for your 3d printer :)
