Extruder stepper motor behaving oddly
« on: August 13, 2015, 04:44:58 PM »
Hey all,

I've been asked to help a local school with their early model up plus printer. Apparently they had trouble with the extruder and bought a replacement stepper motor. It was somewhat disassembled when i got it but I can confirm that both the old and new stepper motors behave oddly. When I do an extrude/withdraw command they tick forward a few steps, sometimes stopping, skipping a step or even jumping backwards one.

This would have to be a problem with the stepper motor driver wouldn't it? Ive had a quick look at the motherboard but there are no obvious blown components.

Any suggestions for what to do next? I'm assuming its out of warranty.
